Location Tracking for Puerto Rico

Centennial Puerto Rico Operations Corporation (Centennial de Puerto Rico) has signed an agreement to purchase Andrew Corporation's Geometrix E911 wireless caller location systems to provide public safety agencies with accurate caller location information on cellular calls to 911.

The Andrew Geometrix system, which will be installed in the Centennial de Puerto Rico cellular network, will be compatible with Centennial's current CDMA digital technology and customer handsets, and is adaptable to future technologies that Centennial may implement.

"Centennial de Puerto Rico will not have to replace or modify its customers' handsets, because the Andrew system will provide the location capability completely in the Centennial network," said Tom Cogar, executive vice president & chief technical officer of Centennial Caribbean Operations. "Our customers will benefit immediately when the system is installed and will not have to purchase expensive new handsets in order to be located in emergency situations. One of the most important factors in Centennial's selection of the Andrew system is its ability to bring the added safety of 911 caller location to existing, as well as new customers."

The Geometrix system for Centennial de Puerto Rico will help the company meet Federal Communications Commission Phase II E911 wireless caller location regulations. The Geometrix system determines the position of wireless 911 callers and automatically forwards the caller location information to public safety agencies that receive 911 calls. In addition to wireless 911 caller locating, Geometrix can provide accurate location support for Location Based Services (LBS) that may be offered in the future."
