MMS Usage Accelerates in Kuwait

Kuwait's Wataniya Telecom has announced that its GPRS / MMS service branded 'Action' is witnessing massive take-up, as the number of Action customers reached 35,000, more than double the figure from the end of December 2003. In less than two months, Wataniya Telecom's nationally recognised 'Action' services have grown at a pace not forseen in the market by industry analysts or the Company itself.

"At close of play last year, Wataniya forecasted 10,000 and we exceeded that number by close to 50 percent. By the end of February, Wataniya will beat our forecasts again for uptake of Action - climbing to well over 35,000 active customers using MMS and GPRS related services" said David Murray, CEO and General Manager of Wataniya Telecom. "Clearly, Action services are finding great acceptance in Kuwait and we are building a new market with opportunities for our customers as well as our technology and content partners."

Action provides Wataniya customers with GPRS and MMS enabled mobiles the ability to utilize a broad range of services that range beyond sending and receiving photo messages and accessing the internet. Wataniya customers today enjoy over 20 content based services capitalizing on new mobile technologies in mobiles delivering a new experience with color, audio, images and messaging. Popular content services include Quaranic verses, previews the latest Movies and Music Albums, branded comics and daily Horoscopes as well as fashion and Blue Mountain Greeting Cards.

Andrei Torriani, Wataniya Telecom's Director of Marketing and Product and Development, adds: "Wataniya launched Action with the intention of providing our customers with a content rich offering of services that deliver more than technology a well as an end-user experience that is unique and easy to use. Judging by the uptake, we are off to a great start - there is recognition that Action is the Middle East's most advanced entertainment lifestyle service - but we have just begun. The rest of 2004 promises to be even better as we rollout and offer a wider range of content and services relevant to our customers using the latest developments in technology."
