Kenya Network Suffers Shutdown

Subscribers to the Kenyan GSM network operator, Safaricom were cut off from making calls following network failure on Wednesday evening. The failure comes less than a week after another network breakdown cut off thousands of users in the capital, Nairobi.

When services were resumed for a small percentage of subscribers, it quickly became known that the billing platform was not functional, so all the callers were able to make free phone calls.

The failure last week was attributed to a network switch failure during routine maintenance. The cause of this weeks failure is not yet known."
