Kuwaiti Network Improves Network Management

Kuwait's MTC-Vodafone has selected Harris Corporation as the prime contractor for it's new multi-million dollar Integrated Network Management System (INMS) Project. The INMS will provide integrated fault, performance and inventory management systems for comprehensive, end-to-end management of MTC's extensive telecommunications network in Kuwait. A backup system also will be deployed for disaster recovery.

"We are focused on optimising our network to provide the highest levels of service quality and the latest advancements in technology to our customers," said Dr. Saad H. Al-Barrak, Director General of MTC-Vodafone. "This is a strategic project for MTC as it will enable the free flow of information between the network, services, and business layers of the company. The Harris approach will allow us to centralise all network and service management aspects of our business and make its operations easily visible to personnel across the organisation."

The project is expected to be completed in 2004, with priority subsystems coming on-line as early as February.

The INMS will monitor the entire network for equipment faults and network performance parameters, correlate these, and provide a unified view of service quality across the network. Correlation with the inventory database will enable specific service areas that may be affected by network problems to be immediately identified for rapid service recovery and restoration. NetBoss will identify and prioritise network events that could cause service interruption, and provide automatic notification to appropriate MTC operations and maintenance staff. MTC management will have summary reports on network behaviour so continuous improvement can be measured. The MTC Help Desk will be provided with a web view of network behaviour so they can provide customers with accurate and timely information."
