Kazakhstan Network Passes Subscriber Milestone
TeliaSonera's subsidiary GSM Kazakhstan with the brand name Kcell has passed the milestone of 1 million subscribers in January. During the last year, Kcell's customer growth amounted to about 60%. Kcell has the largest subscriber base of the four Fintur companies operating in the Eurasian emerging mobile markets.
Kazakhstan represents a strong growth potential of TeliaSonera's Eurasian markets with a mobile penetration of about 9% compared to the total population of nearly 15 million. Kcell is the leading mobile operator in Kazakhstan with a market share of over 70%.
TeliaSonera consolidates GSM Kazakhstan as a subsidiary with a 51% ownership through Fintur Holdings.
Fintur Holdings is active on markets with high growth potential where the penetration within fixed and mobile communications is low. Fintur fully-owns a mobile operator in Moldova, and has majority holdings in mobile operators in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Kazakhstan. TeliaSonera holds a 73.9% ownership in Fintur Holdings"
