Palau GSM Network Deployed
interWAVE Communications has announced the deployment of a GSM network for Palau National Communications Corporation (PNCC), the national carrier for local and international telecommunications services for the Republic of Palau. "Our solution enables PNCC to cost-effectively upgrade its current analogue cellular network to a GSM platform," said Tim Moran, managing director of the Asia/Pacific region for interWAVE. "This initial deployment will allow PNCC to immediately offer the latest in digital, wireless services and capture roaming traffic from island visitors, offering data capabilities in the near future."
"Because tourism plays such a major role in the islands' economy, it became necessary to provide visitors with international roaming capabilities," said Ed Carter, general manager of PNCC. "Our local market is also requesting the more advanced, digital wireless services. interWAVE's solution allowed us to build-out the network incrementally, significantly reducing the upfront costs associated with deploying a wireless network."
interWAVE has successfully deployed networks in Micronesia, the Cocos Islands, Guam, the Solomon Islands, the Marshall Islands, and the Cook Islands, among others. Such success at providing wireless infrastructure to island nations further demonstrates the traction interWAVE's solutions are gaining within these niche areas of the world."
