Iusacell Joins the SMS Interconnection Bandwagon

Mexico's Grupo Iusacell launched cross network SMS services to users of Telcel and Unefon, cellular handsets in the United States, Canada and Per, yesterday.

The Company highlighted the participation of the Federal Telecommunications Commission in Mexico (COFETEL) supporting this service modality, working together with the different operators for wireless users to exchange text messages.

The service went fully operative yesterday, and every customer will be able to send or receive SMS without any activation procedure, forms to fill-out or activation charge; customers can visit any Company-owned store, or CSI, to learn more details about this service and its use.

Grupo Iusacell is a wireless cellular and PCS service provider in seven of Mexico's nine regions, including Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Tijuana, Acapulco, Puebla, Leon and Merida. The Company's service regions encompass a total of approximately 92 million POPs, representing approximately 90% of the country's total population."
