Anguilla Orders GSM Kit

interWAVE Communications has received US$0.7 million in initial orders from Weblinks for the deployment of a GSM network on the Caribbean island of Anguilla. Weblinks, a cellular and high speed Internet communications company, will be the first independent operator to offer cellular services to Anguilla residents.

"The compact and robust nature of our GSM solutions make them ideal for operators looking to deploy voice and data networks in island environments," said Bill Carlin, chief operations officer of interWAVE. "Deploying our solutions allows operators to immediately begin capturing roaming traffic from island visitors as well as provide island residents with affordable GSM cellular service and advanced GPRS data services.

"Until now, cellular services throughout the British West Indies and most of the eastern islands of the Caribbean have been limited to one major carrier," said Kennedy Hodge, chief executive officer of Weblinks. "Recent regulation on Anguilla, and other Caribbean islands, has opened the door for native Caribbean companies to begin offering telecommunication services. As a result of the cost-effectiveness and advanced feature set of interWAVE's GSM offering, Weblinks has embarked on a network expansion plan that will interconnect several Caribbean islands via a locally-owned, GSM network."

Deploying a GSM network in Anguilla is yet another example of interWAVE's unmatched ability to provide operators with wireless voice and data solutions. Other island nation deployments include Micronesia, the Cocos Islands, Guam, the Solomon Islands, the Marshall Islands and the Cook Islands."
