Mobilkom Upgrades its Mediation Billing Platform

Austria's mobilkom has selected MetaSolv Network Mediation as the convergent mediation platform for its GSM, GPRS and UMTS services. Network Mediation combines support for GSM voice switches with a vendor-independent GPRS & UMTS Charging Gateway, and support for a broad suite of SMS, MMS, and WAP application servers.

"MetaSolv Network Mediation is a proven, state of the art solution, which fulfills all upcoming requirements in the complex data/voice environment. With the flexible solution we are able to reduce time to market, especially for IP products," said Walter Goldenits, head of division IT, mobilkom austria. "We have been using MetaSolv Network Mediation since our initial GPRS launch and we are pleased to extend its use to support our GSM and UMTS networks."

A key to the success of the implementation of the MetaSolv Network Mediation solution is mobilkom austria's long-term relationship with Kapsch CarrierCom, MetaSolv's system integration partner in Austria. Kapsch CarrierCom was able to meet mobilkom austria's specific requirements by working collaboratively with MetaSolv to leverage the inherent flexibility of Network Mediation.

"Keeping the pipeline of accurate information flowing from the network to billing and other operations support systems -- is critical to service providers' ability to achieve their revenue objectives. For leading operators such as mobilkom austria, MetaSolv Network Mediation is delivering real business benefits by leveraging a single convergent mediation system for all voice, data, and application services," said David Sharpley, senior vice president of marketing, MetaSolv.

In addition to MetaSolv Network Mediation, mobilkom austria has deployed MetaSolv Policy Services in its GPRS & UMTS networks. MetaSolv Policy Services enables operators to cost-efficiently manage their IP network service resources, by providing network-aware IP name and address management capabilities (including DNS and DHCP servers) and mobile subscriber authentication (RADIUS) through a centralized directory-based platform."
